Key statement here folks... and after 25 years of searching it took Niels to get it through my head, “There is no magic pill”, for all the reasons Niels stated. Sometimes it take hearing it from someone you feel is being genuine and not just hoarding knowledge before one believes it. Thanks Niels, always great education from you.
Yes in 9 ball the shot are repetitively so if u practice those shots every day after about 6 months to a year u will start running out a lot more than what you are.
The more I watch your videos, the more I like them. I really appreciate that you break some of your drills down for different levels of players. It's good to have an achievable goal and a point slightly beyond to shoot for. Great work!
Your honesty about "No magic pill" is refreshing. Doing drills to figure out how your particular shafts deals with deflection and throw is much better than just shooting a bunch of balls in.
With the low deflection shaft that I use, I aim thicker when using outside English however when using inside English I aim at the natural contact point using parallel (front hand) English because the deflection is almost zero. With the regular high deflection shafts I use backhand English to compensate for deflection for both outside and inside English. Its consistent once u have the correct bridge length to match the pivot point of the shaft.
There's no real secret aiming system for sure. Just got to get to the table and work on it. The ghost works great on straight in shots and short angled shot with no spin. Thank you Niel's.....Appreciate you!!!!!
You're the best man. I find myself watching you for hours and my girl now recognizes your voice and sighs every time, full well knowing that ill be distracted for a while.
One thing I found that helps me when playing with English is that I'll aim the shot with English... Example.... I stand get my aim line and see I need bottom right to get to my next ball when I address the cue ball I address it with bottom right as I get down I don't go center ball then pivot my cue... For me it helps my brain to naturally compensate the shot and trust me when I started doing it the shots looked off and I would over compensate and miss but when you trust it even tho it may look off it works especially for longer shots... So now I work on getting the same head position every time
I'm not a good player but i love playng ths game. I gues, ths is the best tutorial i've watchd, i learnd a lot frm Niel. Briefly & clearly explaind with executn
A very stable open bridge can be made by having the first 2 sections of the index finger pulled back under the third section. The 1st and 2nd are flat on the table. When a higher bridge is needed, it's usually better to put the index finger straight out again to more easily get the height.
Holy crap! ANOTHER GREAT TUTORIAL! Thanks for for the "ghost ball" technique, I've always used the cue stick (pretending to hit the object ball, to "mentally" mark it) as my alignment method. The "ghost ball" technique allows the brain to naturally SEE "throw" and other reactions if you DO need to use spin. What a GREAT channel, The "TERMINATOR" has teaching abilities that surpass even Dr. Dave most of the time. UNREAL! Thanks for posting...
I am currently in my home in China and the tables are brutal and ONLY nine footers. The unnecessary spin was killing me. It has been the best thing that has happened to my game to reduce English. Great video
Perfect video, which clarify a lot this topic and gets rid of the meaningless "magics" that a lot of pool-sorcerers always try to sell. The only thing I would have stressed a little bit more is the fact that with slow shots THROW is more important, rather than firm shots where DEFLECTION (or better, SQUIRT) has more influence. This is important because the correction is the opposite from one to the another.
So happy to hear someone of your stature tell it like it really is! Ghost ball and feel is all a player needs. I don't even think in terms of ghost ball anymore, I just line up in a way that it "makes sense" which is the ghost ball by definition but I don't think about trying to replace a ghost ball. I just see lines in my head.
By the way, did you know I just launched a PATREON page?? It's a great place for all my fans to visit. You can choose between different levels and difference context. I offer Personal Player Reviews, Mental Training Courses, LIVE Zoom calls at the pool table, VIP access to special videos and Much More!! Feel free to check it out 😎👍👍
Another tip I've been told and it works depending on the stick is if you wanna hit inside English you aim more full cause the cue will be pushed towards the outside of the ball and if hitting outside English you over cut the ball cause it'll push the cue towards the object ball.... Whether these work 100% or not depends on your stick as you said.... Again PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE...And many Advil!! 😆😆
Niels, great lesson, man! Love to watch you play, and learn from you!!! I've tried every aiming system under the sun, until I finally gave up all the confusing and conflicting "systems", and started to just trust my instincts. Took me a long time to learn "I always hit this a little thick, adjust it out a little." Or, "I always hit this shot a bit thin, thicken it up!" Indeed, there are no "Magic Pills" and to hear it from you, Niels, just confirms what I already suspected in my head. There is no substitute for feel, and hitting many thousands of balls. I also like your bit about how we all adapt our aiming as our gear changes, and getting locked into a "system" is a detriment to being able to feel it out instinctively. Great content!

This is something I have been setting up every day and working on before I start my drills. Knowledge of how to hit with full insides or bottom outsides makes the game so much easier, and gives you way more options with your cue ball. Keep up the great videos Niels!!

Again -- Neils providing "priceless" information!!! In so many cases (about all), you have to practice it to see it ... and it may take a lil while; it takes practice! Be Safe
I agree that the ghost ball system is the only system you need. However, visualizing the ghost ball is tough for most people. So systems for achieving that may be able to help. It can be as simple as using your ferrule to estimate where the center of the ghost ball relative to the object ball.
Thanks so much. I’ve wondered for years of pros had a system I didn’t know about or understand, but I’m now more confident that I’ve been thinking correctly about it... now if I just had table time. Thank you good sir!

I never took the ghost ball theory that much. This is indeed effective. I'll go back to the drawing board and practice. The feel, I have that, the aiming is the issue. Thanks T-800!!
Wonderful explanation Niels. There are no magic pills, it takes time at the table to figure these things out. Same as life. Same as any trade or skill, put in the time. Thank you sir.
Those cut shots that are close to but not against the rail are my nemesis when I play. I think I learned from watching this I need to be aiming thicker/fuller I will be putting it to practice! Thank you! You have a new fan and subscriber!!

Thank you once again Niels! I find this your best video on tips so far, simply because of the importance the aim has and the fact that you were simply sincere about what are we supposed to do. Big thumbs up for the comparison between what you noticed on different players throughout the years. This is where learning from others can help us have that edge.
Niels I've looked up to you for a long time. These videos are such a great thing to see and learn from. Thank you so so much for the wisdom and advice! I've improved so much from watching your content.
Very nice video. I really like how u stress that there is no magic pills which a lot of players think exists. Pool is a game of feel and hard work. The key is to understand the differences between the different shafts (low deflection vs standard) Use an equipment with the deflection characteristics that suit the way you aim and Practice, practice practice.
I like the ghost ball but sometimes I like to add contact points to it. Whatever the contact point on the OB is it's the exact opposite on the CB. Then I always overcut all cuts because of cut induced through. Or spin then in. Or feel lol. Put the ball in the hole system. And get your stroke strait. That never hurts.
Very wise lessons. I have used some systems for side effect balls, but are way too complicated, you have to take in to account, amount of spin, squirt, swerve, throw, angle and speed. Though it's good to know the physics behind it it's not practical for playing. I'm not a computer myself. I think it is easier the try and error approach, at the end you'll develop your own system.
Thanks, Neils!!! With this lesson, I have no doubt I'll dominate my upcoming tournament and punch my ticket to the 2024 US Open slated later this year! 😉👍 C ya there, brother!!! I'll spot ya!! 😂😂
Correct as usual 👍👌. If I compare my Mezz wood shaft (13,5) to my Becue carbon shaft (12,0), when I swopped, there is a huge different. The Becue deflects way more than the wood so for long shots with pretty much power and english I have to compensate more now.
It's really strange that a 12 mm carbon shaft deflects more than a 13,5 mm wood shaft. I say "strange" as a kind term for "impossible". Also: I've never heard any 13,5 mm Mezz shaft (apart from break shafts).
While I started with the ghost ball approach, I now find that I can just shoot ‘naturally’ without extra thought. It seems my mind has memorized the shot that I have seen before and now I no longer have to go through the mechanics of the ghost ball approach.
Great video on aiming. Each cue is different but also predictable so once you understand how much it swerves and how it effects the object ball it can just be a natural adjustment. One question had is that on the shot around the 3:30 mark I have always felt that on a cut like that that there is a bit of throw to the bottom rail so with center it is slightly thinner than the ghost ball. A hair of low right in my eye lets me hit at the ghost ball point. That specific shot comes up so often for the 9 ball. Sent a donation for the great content.
The challenge with that high-inside shot to go 4-rails to get on the 8 is in situations where you want to hit that same ball high-inside, but only want to go around 2, maybe 3 rails with a softer hit, you then have to compensate for less deflection and probably a bit of swerve, meaning you would then aim the shot a little thin. The complexity of pool is amazing, where everything from speed to spin matters that even the same shot has to be aimed differently based on speed. Also, @Niels The Terminator Feijen: I'm curious what you would tell beginning players about using the ghost ball system, but needing to compensate for Collision Induced Throw (Cut Induced Throw). I've seen a lot of new players use the ghost ball, aim and hit properly, but still just barely miss because the natural throw took the object ball off line. I often recommend to them anything that's over a half-ball hit, overcut the ball slightly.
The shot on 9:30 is rather trickier than the one before. When you use soft strokes with spins (especially combined with draw shots) you need to imagine the point where the cue ball gets back to the line of shot... Like you said.. Its true that the first reaction of the cue ball is to be "thrown" outside the line, to the opposite side of the spin you used.. But the softer the shot.. The more the cue ball will be back to its original line.. With a slight curve, creating an S shape. So... If you could elaborate about it more,it would be awesome. Regardless of that.. BHE or FHE? How do you determine which one is more suitable?
One thing I've found when I'm not seeing the balls very well is that focusing on the line of aim, even though it's still an approximation, settles the mind. For me that means I can see the corner of the ball I'm looking for a little better. With me every little bit helps.
Ghost ball may work only for beginers for a starting point. But it's actualy inaccurate because when you hit a ball from an angle (without a side spin) it throws the ball a little to opposite direction from where you are hitting it (how much it depense on how much angle and speed there is - more angle and less speed = more throw of the ball). Like you said, practice is the only way to get a natural feeling for the ball :) Thanks fot the video, good luck and cheers!
Thrilled you finally created your own channel and sharing your knowledge! Always wanted to ask you, have you always played with your dominant eye directly over your cue? Any thoughts and/or video you can create to go into more details on this subject of facial or body alignment? Thanks!

PS If you ever are in search for a new topic, here's a suggestion: please show us the evolution of all the poolcues that you used in your career, from the very first, including the T10 where you became WC straight pool with, all the way up to the present one. Show us your break cue, your jump cue (still the Scorpion?), you're snooker cue and please explain the differences from old to new. You mentioned some of it in this video ;) Would be very interesting :) Wishing you all the best with the upcoming competition and hope to see you play again in the Benelux in the near future. Greetings my hero :)
Can you make a video where you talk in detail about the tip you prefer (soft, medium etc.) The size and type of the shaft but also about the table you have. I will soon invest in a pool room but I will probably have space for an 8ft in there and I am curious if that would affect my playing ability on the 9ft in time. Also, what cloth would you recommend or prefer for home use. I think your channel is the best! Thank you for taking time to make these great lesson videos!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Niels, it is nice to hear from you that trusting your gear and feeling the shot based on the ghost ball is a great aiming system. Keep it up! 🦾
THERE ARE TRICKS. Once you know ghost ball, you can employ tricks on certain shots/situations that are not ghost ball, or that deviate from ghost ball a bit. For instance, purposely using deflection for small aiming adjustments, purposely using throw while hitting a ball dead center. These are for intermediate and advanced players. They assist with difficult situations where precise aiming is difficult and aiming dead center simplifies it. For instance, a long shot with tiny angle. Rather than aim at a ghost ball that is 1mm off center. You can aim dead center and use throw or deflection to get the cue ball or object ball to deviate slightly from this basic setup.
I've struggled for years regarding spin. I stopped and went back to the basics and now only practice center ball and until I master that and know what the cue ball does and then I will work on spin.
Thanks for watching!!

I'll spot ya!! 😂😂
That's the spirit!!! Enjoy your practice and let me know how it went 🔥😎💪👊
@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen Domination of tournament was
lacking 👀😂, but my game is headed in the right direction. ✌️😉
Correct as usual 👍👌. If I compare my Mezz wood shaft (13,5) to my Becue carbon shaft (12,0), when I swopped, there is a huge different. The Becue deflects way more than the wood so for long shots with pretty much power and english I have to compensate more now.
Yep it all depends on the equipment 👍🏼👍🏼😄
It's really strange that a 12 mm carbon shaft deflects more than a 13,5 mm wood shaft. I say "strange" as a kind term for "impossible".
Also: I've never heard any 13,5 mm Mezz shaft (apart from break shafts).
Hi Neill, thanks a lot for this video, this is by far the best advice about aiming that i ever seen ...
While I started with the ghost ball approach, I now find that I can just shoot ‘naturally’ without extra thought. It seems my mind has memorized the shot that I have seen before and now I no longer have to go through the mechanics of the ghost ball approach.
Yep good point! Start with ghost ball and the rest is all feel
Wonderful clarity..thanks again!
You got it! 🙏🏻🙏🏻😄
Hey niel im your big fan, hope i make a full series about play pool
Working on it. Stay tuned for weekly videos 😄👍🏼🔥
You are flat out excellent. Thanks!!
Thanks Tom!🙏🏻😄
Great video on aiming. Each cue is different but also predictable so once you understand how much it swerves and how it effects the object ball it can just be a natural adjustment. One question had is that on the shot around the 3:30 mark I have always felt that on a cut like that that there is a bit of throw to the bottom rail so with center it is slightly thinner than the ghost ball. A hair of low right in my eye lets me hit at the ghost ball point. That specific shot comes up so often for the 9 ball. Sent a donation for the great content.
Much appreciated Johnny!! That shot it also depends on the speed. If hit medium to hard you get less friction than on a soft hit 👍🏼👍🏼
Good point! However that last one depends on the speed. I agree with softer hits you get that throw but not on firmer cut shots for example👍🏼👍🏼😄
Thanks Niels, your contents are very good for medium player ,like me.
Greeting from Indonesia Niels.
Thx Bintora 😄👍🏼
Thank you so much, you are the greatest coach
No problem! Glad you’re enjoying it 👍🏼😄
That's a brilliant technique idol..will treasure that for sure💪
Go for it and thanks a lot Greg!! 👊😊
@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen thanks idol for noticing me🙇 hope can have one of your old cue😅 🇵🇭
You have helped improve my game tremendously!! Please keep up the great work..
You too! Thanks!
Totally agree 👍 Excellent tutorial!
Thanks 👍🏼💪🏼🔥
Can you explain BHE FHE? Thanks!
I changed my aiming systems many times,, i think staying down and good follow throw are the keys for pocketing balls.
Staying down is massive! Yep 💪🏼💪🏼
Good stuff! Simple but extremely clear.
Best lesson ever...thank you
Tnx!!! You’re welcome!👍🏼😄
One thing I've found when I'm not seeing the balls very well is that focusing on the line of aim, even though it's still an approximation, settles the mind. For me that means I can see the corner of the ball I'm looking for a little better. With me every little bit helps.
Good stuff 💪🏼💪🏼👍🏼😄
Thanks for making videos it's awesome getting content from a champ!! Please keep making them.
You got it Devin! Stroke next week! Stay tuned and please share 🔥💪🏼😄
I just came across your channel i love your content man you are a great teacher
Cheers Kenneth! 🙏🏻😄👍🏼
The Terminator is the best!
Yep agree. The speed makes a huge difference. Ghost ball is a great starting point 👍🏼
I have always enjoyed watching you play Niels. I hope you'll be at the Spring 9 Ball Open in Virginia. We really miss the US Open since Barry passed.
Was hoping to come back in the fall
For us international but it will clash with the eurotour. Big bummer
Thrilled you finally created your own channel and sharing your knowledge! Always wanted to ask you, have you always played with your dominant eye directly over your cue? Any thoughts and/or video you can create to go into more details on this subject of facial or body alignment? Thanks!
I have! Have you seen the stance video? I talk about the eye situation 😄😄👍🏼👍🏼

Thanks!!
GHOST BALL. That's how I learned it. And that is referenced is SO MANY videos here on youtube.
before watching i must pause and comment. i have my own aiming system but i needed to see what niels does so i can add to my skill set. cant wait for you to explain your kicking technique
Yep there will be a couple of those in the future. But first stroke 😄
@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen that is perfect... I don't know how to thank you Niels I am a lot more focus now than ever... Just by seeing a pro that I look up to in live action seeing that you struggle in practice but your mental attitude towards getting better accepting your faults is just beyond admirable so I feel as if I am as committed as you which we both know I am not as yet lol.... Thank Niels
🙏🏻🙏🏻😄😄 you can’t beat desire so just keep going!
Once again a very educative and useful video. Clear explanations, well documented and highly professional! I love them. Thanks a lot Terminator, you are the best!
My man!! Thanks! Good tip! I’ll look into it 😄😄💪🏼
Can you make a video where you talk in detail about the tip you prefer (soft, medium etc.) The size and type of the shaft but also about the table you have. I will soon invest in a pool room but I will probably have space for an 8ft in there and I am curious if that would affect my playing ability on the 9ft in time. Also, what cloth would you recommend or prefer for home use.
I think your channel is the best!
Thank you for taking time to make these great lesson videos!
Thanks sorin!

Good luck!!
might be the best Vid on aiming!!!
Nice to hear!! Thank you pal 👌😎
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Niels, it is nice to hear from you that trusting your gear and feeling the shot based on the ghost ball is a great aiming system. Keep it up! 🦾
Thanks Akabus. Have a chance to practice?
Once again, very good advice. I plan on implementing what you said in this video later when I practice at my house. Thanks brother.
Nice video,Can you explain what is the difference between object ball through and deflection in cue. And how it's impact on the table.
Not quite sure if I understand the question good enough to give a solid answer
Favorite player all time hard work pays off Neil's great job I'm coming out the lab soon gonna be better than ever mick aka mickelson💯💪
Enjoy it Nat! Good luck and practice 💪🏼🔥😄
Such a greatly instructive video Niels! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing knowledge. Please keep the videos and tips coming!!! 🙏🏽🔥
You got it! Next one tomorrow. Please share 🙏🏻😄👍🏼
Wow excellent job Niel!
Tnx!! 🙏🏻👍🏼😄
Thanks I really liked your video.
Thanks frank! Got a chance to practice?
